Writing Prompt (6-30-08)

Posted in Writing Prompts with tags , , , , , , , on June 30, 2008 by Jason

Here is a somewhat different kind of writing prompt, a ‘weird combination.’ Take the following two unrelated subjects and tell a tale that utilizes both as major parts of the story.

Subject 1: The Wild West

Subject 2: Adolf Hitler

“Whenever you turn on a water faucet in your house, you hear children’s voices amidst the sound of the rushing water. As you strain your ears to listen to these voices, you can hear them pleading for help.”

NBC’s Latest Show: Fear Itself

Posted in Television News with tags , , , on June 17, 2008 by Jason

Television shows that I actually like are few and far between. The ones that I do watch are either educational or have to do with some aspect of the paranormal. There just don’t seem to be very many good shows on the tube for folks (or maybe I just don’t know where to look!), and the ones that are good, such as Joss Whedon’s incredible Firefly, don’t last as long as I’d like… I still can’t believe Fox canceled that one!

Anyway, I thought I would mention a new television show on NBC that I am really digging. It is called Fear Itself and is a horror anthology show similar to what Showtime did with their Masters of Horror series. Each week there is a new story written by a different writer and starring a different bunch of top notch actors. The show is only two weeks old, but I like what I’ve seen thus far. You should check it out if you get the chance – it is on Thursday nights at 10PM, but you can watch full episodes on the NBC website. I think most horror fans are going to like it. Hell, I even love the theme song (Lie, Lie, Lie by Serj Tankian).

Friday the 13th

I’m not exactly superstitious, and I don’t believe in bad luck. Karma is a whole other subject, but I’m getting off topic. Back to Friday the 13th. Like I said, I’m not superstitious. However, it is currently 11am, and I have a nasty leak in my ceiling and the brakes went out on the car. To top it off, I have a whole slew of deadlines. I wonder what else the day will bring.

Anyone else have any of this “bad luck” today?

“While cooking scrambled eggs for breakfast one morning, you crack open an egg and rather than the slimy white and yellow embryo that you are used to, out pours a tiny man dressed in a business suit. He dusts himself off in the bowl and introduces himself.”
