2 New and Free Articles on Suite 101

I have two new articles geared towards writers currently available on Suite 101.

The first article, called Naming Your Characters, is about the importance of giving your characters good, fitting names. The second article is called Overcoming Writer’s Block. I’ve been fortunate in my writing career – I rarely suffer writer’s block. I credit this to employing the techniques I outline in the article every time I feel the muse starting to get lethargic. The techniques are simplistic, but they really work.

  1. thanks for the article’s link. it’s very cool

  2. I just read your writer’s block article, and your suggestion about writing prompts. I may have to try one of them one day. In a folder in my computer, I have a bunch of creativity games that I turn to when I need to get more spontaneous, or just want to write without following a script or plan.

One that works for me is purposely writing from another person or character’s perspective. Usually it works the best when choosing someone that I am most unlike and imagining what they would say. At the very least, I learn from another perspective instead of being stuck in my voice and world view. I especially get a shock when I talk and write from my father’s view, particularly after we’ve had an argument.
